Someone Special: ‘Keystones’ the key to salvation for others

The key to spreading salvation to the world

Webster’s defines a keystone as a thing upon which something else rests. They say that the simple bumblebee is a “keystone species,” and nearly a third of humanity’s food source is dependent on these miraculous creatures. Just like the humble bumblebee, Christians represent the keystone to salvation. God gave us purpose to spread the teachings of our cornerstone, Jesus Christ. Just like the bumblebee who pollinates so we can physically exist, we pollinate the souls of mankind with the promise of salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus. That makes each of us someone very special, through God.

Photographer’s Notes: Capturing ‘Keystones’

I have thought really deeply and devotedly prayed on this comparison to ensure we could share this message God placed on our hearts. But every time I look to this small creature, I see constant similarities. Humility, hard work, determination, dedication, purpose, focus, and devotion. These are all traits of the Christian, past and present; a reminder of the path God places us on when we answer his call to serve.

“Keystones” was captured handheld with a 100mm MACRO lens in Newnan, Georgia around mid-Fall. Bees are especially difficult creatures to properly photograph due to their agility and quick movements. They are constantly on the go, working vigorously prior to winter. This image was captured at ISO 400, aperture f/8, and a shutter speed of 1/250 sec. All edits were done exclusively in Adobe Lightroom, adding a slight matte finish for effect.

I am an internationally exhibited fine arts photographer, blog contributor, and published Christian author. Along with my wife, Kathleen, we are the founders of Seven11 Photography and co-authors of “Immersion: An Inspirational Christian Photography Collection”. “Immersion” is the first devotional of its kind to combine “faith-inspired” photography with individual messages of Christian encouragement, creating a more immersive study you can read, see, and spiritually feel. Our goal is to help fellow Christians deepen their relationship with God by creating studies that go beyond written words. If a picture says a thousand words, our unique approach reaches deep into your thoughts, memories, and emotions, through visual engagement, to deepen your study and actively strengthen your relationship with Jesus Christ.
